NookRate was founded in 2025 after our founders spent months trying to find a trustworthy rental in a new city — and kept finding biased platforms full of cherry-picked testimonials and hidden negative reviews.

We believe every renter deserves the same information a friend would give them. Not filtered marketing copy — real experiences, photos, and honest ratings from people who actually lived there.

Trust & Safety

Our trust model is designed to protect renters from fake reviews, protect hosts from bad-faith attacks, and ensure the platform remains genuinely useful.

Verified Stay Program

Reviews from users who upload proof of booking (confirmation email, receipt, or booking screenshot) earn the "Verified Stay" badge — displayed prominently on their review.

Every review is scanned by our moderation system before publication. Flagged reviews enter a human review queue within 24 hours.

Host Response Rights

Any claimed listing owner can respond publicly to reviews — creating a transparent, two-sided record visible to all future renters.

  • Responses cannot be edited after 7 days
  • Hosts cannot delete or suppress reviews
  • Dispute resolution available for factual errors

Community Flagging

Any user can flag a review that appears to violate our guidelines. Flagged content is reviewed by our Trust team within 48 hours.

  • Reports are always confidential
  • We notify reporters of outcomes
  • Repeat violators are banned
  • Appeal process available to all parties

Write about your firsthand experience
Your review should be based on your personal experience staying at or renting this property. Detail what worked, what didn't, and any surprises — good or bad.

Include photos and videos you personally took
Visual evidence is incredibly helpful to future renters. Upload real photos from your stay — not screenshots of the listing's own marketing images.

Be specific and balanced
Mention both the positives and negatives. A review that says only "it was great!" or only "terrible host!" gives future renters less information to act on.

Flag genuine safety concerns
If you experienced something that could affect other renters' safety — broken locks, pest infestations, inaccurate emergency information — please include it.

Criticize the experience, not the person. Racial, ethnic, gender-based, or other identity-based attacks will be removed immediately and may result in a ban.

Reviews submitted in exchange for discounts, refunds, or free stays are prohibited. Listings found to be soliciting fake reviews will be penalized.

Only submit reviews for properties where you personally stayed. Reviewing a competitor's listing, a place you only viewed, or one you stayed at second-hand is prohibited.
